Asia is both one of the fastest-growing regions for energy demand and a global leader in renewable energy deployment and climate finance innovation. At the same time, the region’s carbon footprint continues to increase alongside economic activity, creating a pressing challenge: how to accelerate climate mitigation while increasing climate resilience via adaptation, and still meet the region’s development and industrialisation needs.
To explore these challenges and opportunities, we are excited to welcome distinguished guests Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, and Co-Chair of UN-Energy, and SMU Chairman Piyush Gupta, for a fireside chat. They will be joined by Dr Rajiv Lall and Professor Winston Chow. Hosted by the Singapore Management University in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All and the Singapore Green Finance Centre, this event will explore the role of energy transition in supporting climate action in the region, along with key interventions to accelerate the deployment of universal clean energy, and innovative financing solutions to unlock their potential.
Objectives
- Highlight the role of energy transition in effective climate action and sustainable development
- Understand various approaches to establishing and scaling clean energy solutions for Asia
- Examine innovative clean energy finance solutions
