Introduction to Sustainability and Sustainable Finance (MOOC)

Introduction to Sustainability & Sustainable Finance  is a foundational course designed to enhance the skill sets of professionals within the financial sector, as well as non-financial practitioners interested in sustainability and sustainable finance. Accessible to beginners with no prior knowledge of sustainability or finance, this course provides insights into climate and sustainable trends and their implications across various sectors, including sustainability reporting, risk management, and exploring carbon markets and strategies for decarbonisation management. It offers learners targeted insights into how climate change influences the financial sector according to current industry needs, ensuring participants are equipped with the latest knowledge and competencies required for success. Understanding these dynamics gives learners a competitive edge in making informed decisions, mitigating risks, and capitalising on emerging opportunities within the financial industry. Participants can anticipate a combination of instructional and learning methods, along with interviews featuring over 20 subject matter experts and industry practitioners.

Dr Rajiv Lall is a finance and policy expert with extensive experience in global investment banks and multilateral agencies, focusing on macroeconomic, trade and infrastructure policy issues, international capital markets, and sustainable investing in emerging markets like India, China, and ASEAN. Currently a member of the Management Committee at the Singapore Green Finance Centre and a Professorial Research Fellow at the Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics, Dr Lall is actively involved in building sustainable finance initiatives in Asia. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University and a B.A. (Honours) in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Oxford University, earning prestigious fellowships and awards throughout his career.

Participants will have the opportunity to test their knowledge through a series of questions at the end of each module. These assessments serve as a means to reinforce learning without a grading system.

Our target audience primarily consists of professionals within the financial sector, including investors, private bankers, and other stakeholders entrenched within the financial ecosystem. The MOOC also welcomes individuals interested in sustainability and sustainable finance in general, regardless of their prior knowledge or experience in these domains.
